Flamenco in Fiji: Power, Passion, Precision with Ana Romero : December 5 – 12, 2026
per person
Flamenco : Feel the rhythm, passion and power
Ana Romero, the internationally recognised dancer and teacher, invites you to join her for an unforgettable Flamenco Workshop. During the week you’ll delve into the true spirit of flamenco and its history and learn:
- Rhythmic footwork (zapateado)
- Expressive hand movements (floreo)
- Posture, grace, and attitude
- Choreographies that capture the spirit of flamenco
We hope to stage a performance at the end of the workshop! (No pressure, we’ll see who wants to do anything.) But, if you think you’re up for it (and it would be FABULOUS) and if you have a flamenco costume, bring it along as well. There’s a small local community who love coming to the casual shows we do at Daku – and we might even think about going to one of the nearby villages as well.

From AU$2780 - Price includes:
- Daily workshops with Ana Romero
- Accommodation – choose from our bures at the front (Ocean View bures), or at the back (standard rooms)
- Meals : breakfast, lunch and dinner – a mix of local Fijian and Indian food and international recipes (one dinner out at own expense)
- Visits to Fijian village mekes to explore this traditional Fijian dance form
- Excursions: snorkel on the fabulous coral reefs, bathe in glorious waterfall, revel in the abundant nature of the landscape and experience the rich Fijian culture.
You just need to buy your air ticket and art materials, and leave the rest to us.

Why Fiji?
Because it’s a wonderful place for a holiday, and at the same time you can explore your passion for flamenco.
Ana : I think it is great to just say while you’re on an amazing holiday experience something deep and fulfilling that will connect you to earth and community because that is truly what l feel.
Fiji’s natural beauty — from golden sunsets to turquoise waters — provides the perfect backdrop for a dance form born of passion, fire, and soul. Just as the islands celebrate connection, community, and expressive movement, flamenco channels those same values with intensity and flair.
You’ll practice fiery Spanish rhythms by day, and unwind under the stars by night. Fiji’s warmth, both from its people and its climate, makes this more than just a workshop — it’s an experience.
No previous dance experience is required – just bring your energy, curiosity, and an open heart.
Whether you already dance flamenco or you’d like to learn more about it, Fiji is a fabulous place for a flamenco holiday!
A special experience
Ana Romero is known for her belief that a true sense of flamenco is rooted in expressing raw emotion through dance, dismissing the myth that only Spaniards have salero (spunk/spirit).
She is a significant figure in both the Australian and international flamenco communities, known for her dedication to keeping the traditional elements of flamenco alive through performance and education. In this workshop, she will be focusing on the idea that flamenco is much more than the dance: it as an expression of creative energy, defiance, power and passion.
In the mornings she will teach a dance classe – depending on the composition of the students, we will either have a single class or divide it into two levels, beginners and intermediate.
In the afternoons, we’ll go out into local surrounds and learn about the many other elements of flamenco – the strident singing, the searing music, the hand-clapping (palmas) which helps punctuate and accentuate the song and dance, the staccato foot-stamping which builds in intensity. We may do this outside – on the beach, beside a waterfall, in a forest – any space delivering beauty and creative energy.
Ana will talk about the history of flamenco, which emerged in Spanish Andalusia from a rich cultural blend of gypsy, Moorish, Jewish, and local Andalusian traditions, flourishing from the 18th century.
