In this workshop, you’ll dive into the enchanting world of sketching and watercolour painting, creating captivating sketchbooks filled with creative lettering and thoughtful layouts. Experience the joy of capturing your holiday through art as you sketch and paint a diverse array of subjects in breathtaking locations—from stunning coastal landscapes and charming local architecture to vibrant native flora and even your delicious meals. Whether your focus is primarily on sketching with a touch of watercolour or on creating individual paintings, this holiday is designed to inspire and accommodate all skill levels.

Teacher Judy Salleh

Judy’s impressive 30-year career spans both creative and commercial realms. As a multidisciplinary artist, she also works with Gouache, Acrylics, and Soft Pastels. Her rich background includes running a screen-printing and design company in the UK, designing T-shirts and greeting cards, teaching Batik in Malaysia, and holding numerous exhibitions in Australia and the UK. You might even recognize her work from sketching books, hotels, restaurants, and an advertising campaign for American Express.

During this week, you’ll enjoy the rich culture and unspoilt nature of Fiji, the place where happiness comes naturally. We’re in Savusavu in Fiji’s North – known as the Hidden Paradise because it really is! We’ll take you out to snorkel on the beautiful coral reefs, to plunge into fresh waterfalls, to visit traditional Fijian villages where you’ll see a deeply hospitable corner of Fiji.

We’ve got a full programme planned – with some spare time to just relax.

9am - 12:30pm: Workshop at Daku: time to get familiar with the place and your materials,. 1pm: Lunch Afternoon: Free time: relax, swim, snorkel.... 7:00pm: Dinner

Monday
9am - 12:30pm Workshop: at the raintree 5k down the road - lovely coastal views. 1.00 pm Lunch 1.30 Visit from local craftswoman and tapa (traditional bark cloth) making demonstration followed by trip to Savusavu Town to see local market and shops. We'll take you there in a taxi, and then leave you to wander around and find your own way back (taxis cost approx F$4.80). 7.00 pm Dinner

Tuesday
9.00 am – 12.30 pm Workshop: : we'll go to the gardens of the Yacht club overlooking the harbour and sketch the harbour life, the yachts, and the view to Nawi Island Marina. There are benches and shade, a cafe where you can buy coffees 1.00 pm Lunch 4.00 pm Visit to local village - a chance to see village life and the meke dance. Bring along your sketch book. 6.30 Pearl farm talk 7.00 Dinner

Wednesday
9.00 am – 12.30 pm Workshop: we’ll go to Vuadomo waterfall about half an hour’s drive. The falls are an easy 20 minute walk from the car park. Bring swimming costumes and prepare to plunge into the cool waters of the torrent. On the way we’ll stop at the Urata Lookout café and take in the spectacular views of the bay. 1.00 pm Lunch Free afternoon 6.00 pm Dinner in town (own expense)

Thursday
9.00 am – 12.30 pm Workshop at the beach about 20 minutes away. A chance to sketch the coastline and palm trees (and have a dip in the ocean). We'll take a picnic lunch and return to Daku approx 3.30. 7.00 pm Dinner

Friday
9.00 am – 12.30 pm Workshop: we leave this one unscheduled so we can catch up on anything we missed or fill in things we haven't completed in time for a casual friendly end -of-stay exhibition to celebrate what we've achieved. 1.00 pm Lunch Free time and set-up end-of-week show and tell exhibition 5.00 Exhibition 7.00 pm Final Fijian dinner

Saturday
Breakfast and departure: Fly from Savusavu back to Nadi International flight home. Checkout is at 10.00am but if your flight is later, you are welcome to leave your baggage behind the main reception, and to use the pool and lounge until you are ready to depart.
