Capturing paradise in dynamic style with Carmen McFaull

I’m returning to Fiji inspired by what I found on my first visit. My workshop incorporates my love of colour, painting themes in response to being surrounded by exotic gardens, turquoise waters – all of which I found in abundance when I came before. We will create from what we see around us, and from our past experiences beyond our local environment, then bring those precious memories home to live on in our hearts and on our walls.

About the Workshop

Carmen McFaull travels to unique locations precisely because she wants to create the opportunities that arise when one is away from a normal lifestyle. She recognizes that students will see and respond in a completely different way to being in a studio – whether it’s the light, or the quality of air, or the utterly different subjects– there’s a fresh edge that the location brings to the experience!

She encourages her students to work from life, usually in a stylised manner. Many of her own works are on a black background that makes the image really effective. “What you leave unpainted becomes the outline, and once you grasp this idea and make it work, you’ll find a whole new vocabulary of composition.”

During the week she will use both the studio at Daku Resort (a stunning open sided platform used for yoga, painting and the occasional wedding). We’ll also be going out on location – which may be just into the luscious gardens of Daku Resort, or down the road to the beach beside the bay, or perhaps into the nearby town of Savsavu to sit by the water and capture the harbor and the many yachts.

Testimonials from 2019

Carmen’s teaching was just as I imagined. If you look at her bright free way of expression and this captures your inner artist then she will only delight and satisfy this. I loved painting with her sense of freedom and with her use of colour.

It was a great week  in a unique location and to come home with more courage on how to approach work, invaluable.
