Liz Bennett has created a special space within her yoga retreat in Fiji to encourage parents to bring along their kids. It’s a wonderful way for mums and dads to embrace yoga within a family holiday, and reconnect with each other, nature and a gentler pace of life.There are special (separate) classes for the children, and they can come along on all the excursions. At the same time, the kids never overwhelm the yoga so if you are not bringing children, don’t worry – the focus of each class is still on the adults.

This year, Liz is running Balanced Practice Family Yoga Retreat together with her friend Amelia Disspain, who is co-director of their Balanced Practice yoga teacher trainings and retreats.

During this retreat, Liz and Amelia will be working with you on a daily basis to explore your capabilities and develop confidence and understanding of your body. They modify the practices for people with injuries, and they will develop a take-home program for you, that you can do on your own (recording it for you, so you won’t forget it the minute you leave the yoga shala).

We’re offering mums and dads the chance to bring their kids aged 11 and under for free – including special kids’ yoga classes! Limit of two kids per adult. Accommodation is in ocean view bures which sleep 2 adults and a child, or one adult and two children.

  • If you’re on your own with one or two children, we’ll charge you the single rate and put both kids in with you, and they will have all meals and excursions at no extra charge.
  • If there are two adults both doing the course, you’ll be charged the twin share price each, and then there’s room for one child in a bed and one in a cot
  • Or if each adult takes a single room, we’ll put you in a double bure with adjoining bedrooms and you can spread the kids out between you however you choose
  • If that still doesn’t fit your family, let us know and we’ll do our best to work out a generous solution for you!

Liz and Amanda

Meet Liz Bennett and Amanda Disspain.

Amelia runs a community centred yoga studio in Bellingen on NSW mid-north coast, and teaches the ancient art of Yoga in a safe, fun and masterful way, based on a deep understanding of anatomy and physiology, modern medical science and traditional Hatha Yoga. Amelia passionately believes the teachings and practices of yoga are for everyone, and a regular practice not only improves your physical wellbeing but enables you to harness emotional vitality, mental clarity and spiritual bliss.

Liz is a clinical physiotherapist who, like Amelia, has practised and taught yoga for nearly 20 years. She describes her development and expertise in therapeutic hatha yoga as follows:

“Having an early physiotherapy career in the hospital system, then moving into clinical practice, I’ve worked with people in a huge variety of settings. Working in hospitals gave me invaluable insights into the management of acute and chronic conditions. Now, as a physiotherapist and yoga teacher, I apply the principles of yoga therapy which I have studied over many years. A daily yoga practice helps your mind to be clear and your body to rediscover strength, ease and vitality”

  • Morning:Trip to Savusavu Town to see local market and shops. We put you in cabs to get into town and then leave you to wander around at your own pace, and let you to take a cab (Aus$) 3or walk back when you’ve had enough.
  • 2-4pm Ayurveda workshop. Learn ways to harmonise your families wellbeing using Ayurveda - the wisdom of life.

  • Morning:Visit to waterfall – we drive about 30 minutes round the bay to a beautiful waterfall where you can swimming a fresh water pool beneath the cascade. Bring along shoes that you can wear in the water and be ready to enjoy the exhilarating beauty of nature. We’ll get back to Daku in time for a late lunch.

  • 11:30 Picnic lunch at Devodara beach. We’ll drive down the Hibiscus Highway for about 20km to the sandy beach at Devodara, where we’ll have a picnic and swim in the warm waters of the ocean and stroll along the beach fringed with palm trees. We’ll get back to Daku around 3:00.
