Course description

Yoga Mindfulness and Meditation
  • Take a break to rest and recharge your mind, body, and spirit
  • Explore the concepts of the 8-week MBSR course
  • Learn how to feel more capable and less overwhelmed
  • Discover strategies you can use to feel more responsive around family and friends
  • Practice mindfulness to prepare yourself to deal with the stresses of your everyday life


Mindfulness is developed by purposefully paying attention in an open-hearted way to what is going on in the present moment – in your body, your mind and in the world around you.

We call this moment-to-moment awareness and reflective capacity – mindfulness.

Mindfulness practice offers an invitation to move towards greater balance, choice and participation in life. Through the cultivation of skills, attitudes and knowledge we learn how to bring acceptance and curiosity to all of our experience – sensations, thoughts, emotions and actions, and the situation we are in.  This way of seeing can free us up to respond with more clarity and wisdom, rather than acting out of habitual patterns. It opens up the possibility of more authority in our own lives and ways of working wisely and compassionately with difficulties in life so we can choose what is nourishing for ourselves and others.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction

MBSR is a program that helps you learn to calm your mind and body to help you cope with illness, pain, and stress.

Published research over the last twenty years indicate that the majority of people who complete an MBSR program report a greater ability to cope more effectively with both short- and long-term stressful situations.

Participants report they are better able to manage stress, fear, anger, anxiety and depression both at home and in the workplace; they tend to feel less judgmental and critical of themselves, and, as a result, of others.  There has also been a noticeable decrease in the use of prescription and non-prescription medications among students of MBSR.

Nik Welsh Mindfulness

Nik Welsh

BA/BBus (Mgt), Dip. AOD, Dip. MH, Associate of Openground

Nik is a dedicated practitioner of mindfulness, meditation and yoga and has experienced deep personal transformation through her practice. After running her own furniture and homewares design company for many years, Nik embarked on a new career as an addiction counsellor. In this role, her work included teaching mindfulness-based relapse prevention at residential rehabilitation facilities. Nik currently runs the Mindfulness Project, where she teaches MBSR, and serves as the National Coordinator of Openground. She is enthusiastic about sharing the practice of mindfulness and making it accessible to all. Nik lives in the Yarra Valley, Victoria with her husband and three children.

Mark Baxter

Hi, I’m Mark, an experienced MBSR facilitator and psychologist.

I’ve been teaching mindfulness based programs for about 5 years.  I love joining people on their mindfulness journey and seeing the changes it can bring.  Besides teaching the MBSR course, I teach mindfulness to staff within organisations to help them get more satisfaction and meaning out of work.  I also run a psychology practice in Wollongong (Mark Baxter Psychology)

This is my third international mindfulness program with Nik and I’m excited to be part of the Mindfulness Project.

I’m looking forward to meeting you and enjoying the week together.

Late morning: Trip to Savusavu Town to see local market and shops. We put you in cabs to get into town and then leave you to wander around at your own pace, and let you take a cab (Aus$3), or walk back, when you’ve had enough.
1:00pm  Lunch at Daku Resort (unless you wish to stay on in town and eat there).
