Yoga Teachers: Your Yoga Retreat at Daku Resort

Yoga in Fiji Daku Resort

We are always pleased to hear from any teachers who are planning to organize retreats of their own and we would be delighted to work with you in planning your retreat.

We are also ideally set up to host longer teacher training retreats, whether they are single weeks or run for longer periods of two or three weeks.

Yoga in Fiji Daku Resort yoga shala

Yoga facilities

Our yoga shala is a beautiful wooden platform with a roof and open sides commanding a stunning view of Savusavu Bay. It is set slightly up the hill to the side of the resort so it is removed from the day-to-day activity. It measures 10m x 10 m and will take 25 mats easily, and over 45 if they are arranged more closely. We have mats, blankets, bolsters and blocks, and there is a shower and toilet at the shala.

Location

We’re located at Daku Resort near Savusavu in Fiji. It’s   a small, comfortable resort with a unique connection to the Fijian life. The staff at Daku will take care of you as if you were family – and our guests always leave feeling nurtured and cared for. Many of the people who have attended our courses have been back two or three times.

Accommodation

Our accommodation is a mixture of individual bures (cottages) and larger 2 / 3 / 4 bedroomed villas and cottages. We can put together accommodation packages for your students, with single or shared rooms, in a way that will best suit their budgets.

To get to Daku Resort, you need to fly to Fiji’s international airport in Nadi and then take a domestic flight on to Savusavu or, if the flights are very busy, to Labasa which is the town in the north of the island. It’s reached by a ver lovely drive over the mountains which takes approximately 90 minutes in a cab and costs F$90 (approx US/Aus$55). We are happy to advise on travel arrangements and make bookings if requested.

Food

We usually serve three meals a day, although we can easily alter the serving times to fit your teaching schedule, and we can prepare menus to your choice, whether you want a full vegetarian menu or want to include chicken and fish.

A typical day’s meals might run as follows:

  • buffet breakfast of fruit, yoghurt, cereals and toast with fruit juice and herbal tea
  • buffet lunch of salads, frittata, rice and fruits
  • a sit down dinner with 3 courses

Excursions

There are lots of activities around Savusavu, both land and sea based. We can either arrange them on an ad hoc basis during the retreat, or we can set up a schedule to be part of the week. We have snorkeling, hiking, visits to waterfalls, trips to local villages, demonstrations of decorating tapa (traditional bark cloth) and can arrange SCUBA diving with jean-Michel Cousteau Diving which is 5 km down the road.

Advertising

Teachers bringing their own retreats normally have their own advertising and marketing channels, but we are happy to include your retreats on our websites. We also support our yoga presence in Fiji with year-round advertising.

Prices and deposits

Prices and deposits are agreed in consultation with the teacher.

We have a very flexible policy on deposits; we recognize that you need to get a certain level of interest before you can commit and that your accommodation needs tend to change during the planning period. We construct generous terms for deposits, and can retain a high level of booking flexibility as we go. This depends partly on time of year: we have less flexibility during busy holiday periods – but we keep you fully informed as our bookings change so that you can keep your options open.

Booking

We can take and administer all bookings if you would like.

Interested? More questions? Please drop us an email to delia@dakuresort.com and include your phone number and a preferred time when we can call you.

We hope to welcome you to Yoga in Fiji at Daku Resort in the near future. And finally, here’s a video of one of our teachers.

The Daku Resort staff will make you feel part of their own extended family.

Leading the team is Aubrey, our manager, a calm and reassuring presence who will answer all your queries. George is at the bar and the dinner table – and  will often join you on excursions, guiding you on a snorkeling trip or walking you up to a waterfall. The excellent food is produced by Bita, Ana and Joshika (with behind-the-scenes help from Aubrey).  Ann and her housekeeping staff whisk in and out of the bures keeping them clean. In the background you’ll see  Dharmen,  Tui, Seva, Ramen, Harry and Pete, in the gardens, on the boat and around and about the place. All of them will welcome you to the Daku family.
