Snorkeling – Fiji Below the Water : Kathy Barclay : January and June 2011
8 – 15 January, 2011
4 – 11 June, 2011
A fantastic week of snorkelling, learning and exploring in Fiji
8 Days / 7 Nights
The reefs around Vanua Levu provide some of the most rewarding snorkelling in the world. If you don’t want to dive the reefs, this week will give you the chance to see sharks, rays, turtles and many species of reef fish and corals.
In the evenings, an experienced marine biologist will give talks on the marine environment and brief you on the next day’s snorkel. He will come with you to guide the snorkel and point out some of the wonders of the ocean on an all-day field trip.
Below the water is definitely the centre of the week, but we’ll also show you a lot of Fiji above the water. Visits to schools, farms and villages are included.
Course Leader
Kathy Barclay runs a dive operation in Savusavu and regularly dives and snorkels the reefs around Savusavu. She has been a full time resident in Savusavu for 4 years, attracted by her love for Fiji and its underwater world. Sailing on boats since the age of 5 has given her first hand knowledge of the ocean. She holds an emergency first response certificate with PADI and is working towards becoming an instructor in that area this year. She has been a regular competitor in many ocean water swims which has bred complete confidence in the sea. She will co-ordinate and lead the week’s expeditions, taking you to sites inside the reef and, if the seas are calm, outside the reef. Although she is knowledgeable about the underwater world, she is not a qualified marine biologist, so she will be using the expertise of a local marine biologist to come in and give three evening lectures on the marine life you will be seeing.
