The Power of Peace : Glenda Ford : August 2012
19 – 25 August, 2012
Glenda invites you on a journey to inner peace and a deep sense of wellbeing. During this week long yoga retreat you will learn to be kind to yourself and awaken awareness of how Yoga enhances your experience and enjoyment of life.
The yoga programme consists of an early morning class and a longer workshop session later in the day. There will be a blissful 20-minute guided relaxation (yoga nidra) offered prior to lunch. The rest of the day is open for you to relax by the pool, have a massage or enjoy some of the unique experiences Fiji has to offer like snorkeling on the reef or hiking in the rainforest.
Morning yoga will include invigorating breathing practices (pranayama) and an easy flowing style of Yoga (vinyasa) to awaken, cleanse, ease tight joints, tone and align your body. The Yoga workshop session will vary from gentle restorative practices and meditative Yin Yoga to a more dynamic Hatha Yoga class and a fun, light-hearted exploration in creative movement. These practices are suitable for all levels of yoga experience and physical ability.
Glenda Ford:
Glenda is a healer and has been teaching yoga for over 10 years. She brings a rich understanding of anatomy to her yoga classes, weaving the principles of alignment with yoga philosophy to create a safe, nurturing practice space. Glenda supports her students in building strength, easing tension, deepening awareness, finding stillness and cultivating joy both on and off the yoga mat. Her teaching style is warm-hearted and informative, emphasizing connection between body, mind, breath and spirit. She encourages individual discovery and expression of what is appropriate in each moment and invites students to slow down, feel more and experience the sacredness of life within and all around them.
After a successful but stressful career in the fashion industry, Glenda sold her business and retired at the age of 36. Eager to restore balance to her life, manage a chronic back condition and spend quality time with her 3 children, she undertook some part-time study. Seven years later, with diplomas in remedial, sport and yoga therapy plus training in kinesiology, somatic movement and energetic healing, Glenda found herself busy again, running a thriving healing centre.
In 2007 Glenda founded the Mosman Yoga Co-op, where she currently teaches a variety of weekly Yoga classes that range from gentle, remedial Hatha Yoga to dynamic vinyasa styles and also bi-monthly Yin Yoga workshops. Glenda runs corporate Yoga sessions for stress management and also facilitates monthly sacred feminine gatherings.
During 2010-11, Glenda and her husband John took a ‘year off’ to go backpacking around the world. They enjoyed a wonderful adventure and practiced Yoga with many inspiring teaches in far away places. Glenda is delighted to be invited to our little paradise in Fiji as she knows full well the joy and benefit of getting away from everyday life, being in a beautiful natural environment and immersing body, mind and spirit into Yoga a couple of times each day.
