Course description

Painters get stuck from time to time. You almost certainly know the feeling – it’s common to both beginners and experienced artists. You run out of fire, you run into blocks. You know there’s more inside you, but how do you get it onto the canvas?

Chris’ vast experience & knowledge in traditional and contemporary practices will give each individual a fresh new outlook and direction. He’ll encourage you to get more adventurous, to be generous with the paint, to use the brush in a different way, to try out a palette knife, to combine colours that you’d never have imagined would work together.

With Chris you’ll get the guidance, dynamism and sense of fun that will fire your inner magic in a fresh way. He will nurture the beginner and stimulate and develop the more advanced.

Chris has been to Daku Resort before so he knows what’s there. During the week, he aims to work with some of the local tropical themes: reef, rainforest, palm trees, beaches, beautiful sunsets…

He will start the week by painting from some references he’ll bring with him – maybe a beach or a boat on the water. He’ll get you to look at looser techniques with palette knives, fingers, bigger brushes – all ways of developing a more impressionistic approach, painting faster, leaving no time or critical second thoughts.

And he’ll aim to get you producing a new painting every day.

Chris recalls : “A student said to me you will be remembered more for a fun workshop than a serious one. I think there’s a big lesson in that.”

I reside in Perth Western Australia, having never visited the Fijian islands before or attended a painting workshop, I was feeling a little apprehensive of what to expect, on arriving at the resort, I was immediately made to feel welcome by Chris and the staff, I quickly realized I was with a special group of people.
Chris came highly recommended for his diversity in Modern Contemporary fine Art, after visiting Chris’s web site and seeing his amazing works I was inspired to be able to work with such an accomplished Artist.
Chris’s lay back gentle style of communicating his extraordinary painting skills through practical demonstration and one on one tuition was very effective, the workshop was fast passed and covered a number of Brush and Paint application techniques.
Although the week went fast, there was no pressure to go any faster than what an individual was comfortable with. There was time for laughter, relaxation, excursions and time to get to know the amazing people that had committed to do something extraordinary and exciting.
At the completion of the course I was totally satisfied with skills and knowledge I had gained, this was much more than just a painting workshop.
Inspiring, I highly recommend this soul nurturing experience to all.

Teacher: Chris Postle

An inherited gene on the creative side, a passion for life and our amazing environment, and lots of time and patience are just some of the ingredients that have contributed to Chris Postle’s success as an artist. He began the journey as a child, encouraged by his mother Norma, also a very talented artist. He  ventured down many different paths growing up. His discovery in later years that he could paint pictures and sell them was an amazing revelation. An absolute dream job. Drawing on the love for nature and wildlife as inspiration for this new and exciting path, was the beginning of a very rewarding but challenging future.
