Pastels: a path to wondrous creativity with Marla Baggetta – postponed to 2017

Pastel is a wondrous medium that offers up the best of drawing and painting. It has the quick, accessible functionality of drawing, needing only the minimum of preparation, whilst at the same time yielding the rich layers and depth of colours of paint. The result is beautiful – not for nothing were they one of the favourite medium of Degas, Millet and Manet.

This week will be about opening your mind and refining your techniques to embrace the many aspects of drawing: capturing memories of a great trip, giving expression to a mood in a cafe, or preserving the face of a friend you value.

How to take great photographs with Ron Irving May 14 – 21

Come and do a week's photography course in Fiji and you won’ t just have fun - you'll go home armed with sufficient skills and techniques to take some really great photos. There'll be a maximum of ten photographers so everyone gets a chance to have one-on-one teaching as well as the fun of looking at the work of others. A course designed for people who don’t like reading camera manuals, and would like to understand how to master their camera equipment to take great photographs.

She knows and loves the views out over the bay from Daku resort, the tide lapping at the beach under the raintree at the end of the peninsula, the constantly changing light on the mountains in the distance. It’s a subject matter of endless joy and she will show you how to make the most of it.

Using the directness and vibrancy of pastels, you’ll learn to create works that capture atmosphere and light in a moment in time. You’ll be studying seascapes, landscapes and flowers and foliage. Charcoal is an equally fascinating medium. It encourages you to look at line, tone and texture. It’s a free, flexible art form which can be expressive and bold or mysterious and subtle.
